Who are we?

Our own known history dates back to the 1700s in Essex, England, and we are hopeful soon to push that back further.

Obviously the Olley Family Tree contains far more names than Olley. The names of families intertwined with the Olleys are naturally featured on our Website and you may search for your relatives on this page. Far too many sites concentrate on the male links within a family name (not surprisingly since most wives change their names to that of their husband). However genealogists often find that it is the wife's surname (or her mother's) that provides the most elusive links by having passed on their maiden name as a first or middle name. Unfortunately this can just as often be a godparent or vicar - or neighbour!

My name is David Olley and I have created this website to provide an information centre for the Olley family worldwide. I live in Winchester, in Hampshire, England.

My sister Linda, who lives in Appledore in Devon, England, has, for some time, been carrying out extensive research on our direct line. She has received help in the form of parallel research by new found cousins Tony (UK) and Theresa, Sharon and Leslie (USA). The result is a quite comprehensive family tree, with a branch reaching the USA. As you would expect, there are many missing links in the tree that has been created to date, and we invite anybody in or connected to the Olley family to submit any information they may have.

We will soon provide a facility for you to provide information about yourself if you are a member of the Olley family.
